8 Benefits of Mindfulness

Hey everyone, happy Tuesday! I know this is probably the first full week back to work for many of us, but I hope these past eight days of the new year have treated you well. I know for me, I've pressed that reset button and am feeling positive and motivated more then ever to tackle 2019. Goals and ambitions aside, one of my most precious new year resolutions is to be more "MINDFUL". Easier said than done.. right?

Do you ever feel like you have 500 things to do on any given day? Or catch your mind running 100 miles a minute? I know I do, and am going to take a lucky guess and say you do too. Although this isn't the best feeling, it's completely normal, especially in the busy world we live in. Working crazy hours, allowing ourselves to get overwhelmed or multi-tasking till we drive ourself mad is not the answer. On the bright side, learning how to become more mindful can help create a better quality of life and just may be the solution you're looking for.

8 BENEFITS OF MINDFULNESS

1.BOOST ATTENTION SPAN AND FOCUS

With so much at our fingertips, it's sometimes hard to stay focused. Allowing yourself downtime where you do nothing but be present can be a nice change of pace. Quiet time without distraction has been proven to help regain focus and attention.

2.IMPROVES MOOD / LOWERS STRESS LEVEL

Mindfulness is a key element to fighting stress. Ever wonder why people need space when they get into a confrontation? Your mind and emotions need a breather at times. Learning how to control and reduce the effects of stress can lead to a better overall health and well being.

3.ENHANCES ABILITY TO FEEL EMPATHY FOR OTHERS

Studies show that people who meditate have more compassion and ability to connect with others. Mindful meditation is important to creating a more compassionate and understanding community and world (looking at the larger scale).

4.ENHANCES SEX LIFE

Being mindful enables us to be present. When we are present, we are appreciative and aware of what’s happening in a specific moment. Becoming present without distractions or thoughts to get in the way can really enhance your connection with that special someone.

5.HELPS FIGHT / ELIMINATE DEPRESSION

Meditation and being actively mindful helps strengthen the brain. Studies have been conducted and show that those who meditate consistently increase gray matter, which is the region in your brain associated with empathy, sense of self and memory.

6.REDUCES ANXIETY

Being mindful aids in giving you more control over your thoughts, thus allowing you the opportunity to rationalize and think through things. It gives you time to find the best solution without becoming overwhelmed or anxious. It also prevents you from having a compulsive reaction.

7.PROMOTES BETTER SLEEP

Learning how to calm the mind can aid in better sleep. The faster you are at turning off your thoughts, the faster you can settle, relax and enjoy a good nights rest.

8.IMPROVES OVERALL GENERAL HEALTH

A healthy mind is the best foundation for anyones overall health. Meditate, be mindful and reap the amazing benefits.

YOGA INTRODUCED ME TO MINDFULNESS

Yoga has truly enhanced my life mentally, physically and spiritually over the years. I've learned so much and have grown tremendously as the person I am and continue to become. I continuously apply what I learn on the mat to my day to day life off the mat. Ironically, mindfulness happens to be one of the skills taught. Being mindful is crucial, and can easily transform your life, making it fuller and happier.

The mind is extremely powerful and can either work with you or against you. Remember to always be kind to yourself and your thoughts. The human body is divine and has endless potential. As you continue to make progress and bloom this year, try focusing more of your attention on calming the mind and noticing all that's around you. Try being more "present", which can be extremely challenging at times. With practice and awareness, you'll be well on your way to living a more mindful and meaningful life. Thanks for stopping by, and challenge yourself to meditate for five minutes a day this week and see how you feel.
