7 Reasons Why You Should Write Instead of Type
Today, the popularity of writing has gradually decreased. It seems as though we've traded in our pens and notepads for our phone and computer keyboards. Despite the new norm, I want to challenge you to pick up a pen more frequently. Below, I have listed my 7 reasons why you should write instead of type. As you welcome the art of writing back into your everyday life, stop to notice notice the amazing benefits.[gallery link="file" columns="1" size="full" ids="4726"]
ONE - FULLY ENGAGED
First of all, there's too much accessibility when it comes to technology. Have you ever been distracted mid text or email? I'm guilty of it. One second I'm responding to a text and before I know it, I'm on insta, scrolling through my feed, or reviewing my most recent notifications. Having such convenience at my fingertips is great, until I become distracted. Putting my pen to paper gives me the ability to be fully engaged in my throughs and in what I'm writing. Don't get my wrong, I enjoy having everything at the click of a button, but, sometimes, it's just nice to disconnect.
TWO - CHANNELS CREATIVITY
Writing will defiantly get your creative juices flowing. Allow your personality to fill the page. Express yourself not only through the words you're writing, but how you decide to write them. Make every word count and let your creativity shine through. Writing unleashes creativity, not easily accessed in any other way. Play with colored pens and different fonts as well as lettering. Add a drawing or design and always remember to seal it with a kiss.
THREE - BETTER THAN A TEXT, CUTER THAN AN EMAIL
Hand written letters will forever be better than a text and cuter than an email in my book. Since I was young, I have always had a love for stationary and writing. To this day, I continue to write letters and cards. If you know me on a personal note, I'm confident you have some of my cards floating around. Writing letters brings me happiness. I love letting my creativity take hold, but what I love most of all is witnessing the happiness my letters bring to others. Curious where I got my "Better Than a Text" post cards? Look no further, I purchased them from my favorite stationary store, Paper Source! This store truly has such a selection and all you will need when it comes to stationary supplies.
FOUR - IMPROVES PENMENSHIP
Writing will improve your penmanship. The more you write, the better you'll become. Practice makes perfect, so practice, practice, practice, and reap the benefits. Our hands can be trained just as any other muscle in the body can be and will form muscle memory. With that being said, pick up a pen, grab a sheet of paper and start writing away.
FIVE - PROVEN COGNITIVE BENEFITS
The pen is still mightier than the keyboard. Handwriting = brainpower. The motion and rhythm of the pen pressing against the paper stimulates the brain. When you write something down, different sections of the brain become activated. Handwriting forces the brain to mentally engage, which heightens the ability to retain and remember information. Writing by hand also fosters a more positive outlook on life. Writing is unique to each individual and a great way to keep the mind in tip top shape.[gallery link="file" columns="1" size="full" ids="4716"]
SIX - TANGIBLE
Writing uses all five senses. Regardless if you're the sender or receiver, writing will engage your senses differently than that of technology. Handwritten cards are keepsakes, that can be showcased and put out on display. On the contrary, an email or text will be quickly forgotten. Handwritten items contain a personal touch and leave others with a lasting impression. Never underestimate the power of a tangible letter.
SEVEN - BRINGS JOY TO THE RECIPIENT
My 7th and favorite reason why I write is for the joy it brings others. I love the small excitement and curiosity that surfaces when receiving a handwritten card or letter. Who knew something so simple can bring others joy? Knowing someone took the time to write and mail/give you a letter speaks volumes, even before reading what's written. Words are powerful and can impact people in extraordinary ways. Make someones day by taking the time to write a kind note.Feeling inspired? If so, put down your phone or close your computer. It's time to take a seat and put your pen to paper. Have some cards and pens on hand because you never know the next time there will be a celebration, or random moment when you'll have the urge to let someone know you're thinking of them. It's a small gesture that will make a big impression. Writing letters will never go out of style. They are timeless.
